How 5 Superheroes Made Their Millions
Mar 13th
1. Clark Savage, Jr. (Doc Savage)
One of the first superheroes, Doctor Clark Savage Jr., better known as the Man of Bronze, kept a penthouse apartment, and a hangar filled with every type of car, plane or boat imaginable back in the 1930s. The heating bills on his Fortress of Solitude alone must have been enormous! And he did so courtesy of the endless gold supply from a lost tribe of Mayans the late Clark Savage Sr. had discovered. The tribe kept the gold secreted away in South America and Doc had but to ask and a small fortune of it would be left where only he could find it. Nice to have friends with deep pockets.
2. Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)
Now here’s a guy who knows how to stretch a buck! Among other things. Actually, Reed amassed his fortune the old fashioned way, he earned it. By using his brain power, he invented who knows how many things to help humanity and raked in the bucks doing it. Of course all that money goes to saving the world from time to time. Not a bad trade off.
3. Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias)
The ‘smartest man in the world’ of Alan Moore’s seminal graphic novel, WATCHMEN, Adrian Veidt, like so many other heroes, inherited a vast family fortune. Only this hero made a point of giving all of it away in order to prove that he could make something of himself by his own hand, with no help from anyone. And did so by being decades ahead of the world’s thinking, able to predict where future riches lay, and became one of the richest men on the planet in the process.
4. Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Stark also inherited the family business, in this case, Stark Industries which he expanded to Stark International only to lose everything. But taking a page from Reed Richards’s playbook, he built himself up time and time again in a see-saw routine of building and losing businesses and fortunes along the way. He’s also triumphed over the bottle when he’s not tucked away designing new armor.
5. T’Challa (Black Panther)
The first African-American superhero, T’Challa is not only the Black Panther, fighting for justice, but is also the supreme ruler of the African nation of Wakanda that just happens to possess the largest supply in the world of Vibranium. For those of you not in the know, Vibranium is the material they used to make Captain America’s indestructible shield. If you don’t know who Captain America is, then you should stop reading this list and pick up a pile of comics. You’ve got some catching up to do. The Black Panther is all about fighting crime and it’s to these ends that he uses his vast fortune.
